Jeep Key Replacement Service in Houston, TX
Every modern Jeep has a vehicle immobilizer sitting between the key and the engine. If the truck doesn't recognize the security chip, it doesn't start. That's the whole story. Which is why a Jeep key is almost never just cut metal anymore: there's a transponder key, a remote key, or a full proximity key with push-button start, and every one of them has to be matched to your vehicle's security data before it does anything at all.
Texan Locksmith handles that part on-site. Car key cutting when a blade key or laser-cut key has to be made, then key programming and fob programming so the new key actually turns the engine over. Not “should work.” Works, tested, before we pull out of your driveway.
Because the equipment comes to you, you usually skip the tow bill and the dealership’s next-available-Thursday. Most customers pay less than a dealer quote on a comparable key, though how much less depends on the model year, the key type, and what parts we can source that day. Either way you hear the replacement cost up front, before anything gets cut.
Local, Licensed Help From a Jeep-Focused Automotive Locksmith
Texan Locksmith is a licensed, bonded, and insured mobile locksmith (TX B17854701) covering Houston and everything around it. We work as a dedicated automotive locksmith, and Jeep immobilizer systems come through often enough that we know how they behave from an old TJ up to a new Grand Wagoneer. That’s what lets us quote honestly and finish in one visit instead of two.
Upfront pricing, every time. Same-day appointments when the schedule allows, emergency locksmith service when you’re stranded, and roadside response across Houston, Katy, Sugar Land, The Woodlands, Cypress, Pearland, Spring, and Pasadena. Wherever the Jeep is parked, you’re talking to a licensed technician, not a dispatch center reading a script.

Why Choose Us for Your Jeep Car Key Replacement
- Factory-level diagnostic equipment. Professional key programming and immobilizer tools built to talk to Jeep security systems, so transponder, remote, and smart key work happens in the field instead of on somebody’s lift.
- Key compatibility confirmed first. We check your VIN and model year against the right part before we cut or order anything. Wrong chip, wrong fob, wasted afternoon. We’d rather ask twice.
- On-site service, no towing. We come to your location anywhere in the Houston area. That usually means no tow truck and no second trip to a dealership.
- A real dealer alternative on price. Plenty of customers save a solid chunk against typical dealership pricing on a comparable key. How much depends on the model, key type, and parts availability, so we won’t pretend it’s a flat number.
- 90-day warranty. Parts and labor, ninety days. If something we programmed quits on you, we come back out.
- Function testing before we leave. Ignition, keyless entry, panic button, remote start where the vehicle has it. We run through it with you standing there.
- Houston-area mobile service. Arrival times move with traffic and workload, so we give you a realistic window when you call, not a fantasy one.

Jeep Sentry Key and Keyless Go Systems
Jeep runs on the Stellantis Sentry Key and Keyless Go family, and which one you have comes down almost entirely to model year. Older Wranglers and Cherokees use a Sentry Key transponder blade. A lot of 2008 to 2017 Jeeps use the FOBIK key, that thick plastic fob you shove into a dash slot instead of turning a normal ignition key. Current Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Gladiator, and Compass models moved to a proximity key with push-button start, paired through the secure gateway module.
That last group is where people get surprised. The gateway locks out a lot of cheap programming tools entirely, which is why some shops will quote you over the phone and then find a reason to leave. Ours reaches it. Driveway, job site, or trailhead parking lot, it doesn’t matter much to us.
Jeep Key Types We Program
Sentry Key Transponder Keys
Chip keys for the older Wrangler TJ and JK, Cherokee, and Liberty. We cut the blade key on-site and program the security chip to the immobilizer while you wait.
FOBIK Keys
The dash-insert remote on many 2008 to 2017 Jeeps. We program the replacement key fob and confirm keyless entry, panic button, and remote start all answer before we call it done.
Keyless Go Smart Fobs
The proximity fobs on newer Wrangler JL, Gladiator, Grand Cherokee, and Compass. Laser-cut emergency blade included, smart key paired through the secure gateway, push-button start verified in front of you.

Jeep Key Replacement Options We Provide in Houston
First we figure out what you actually have, because a 2013 Grand Cherokee and a 2023 Grand Cherokee are two different jobs wearing the same badge. Then we cut, program, and test, so the replacement key starts the engine and every button on the keyless entry remote does what it’s supposed to.
On parts, you get a choice. An OEM fob from the factory supplier, or a good aftermarket key fob that costs noticeably less and performs the same on most models. Some Jeeps, particularly recent proximity setups, behave better on OEM, and we’ll say so instead of handing you the cheap part and hoping it sticks.
Past that, the usual three: a spare key or duplicate (the cheapest day to do this is any day before you lose the last one), a straight replacement for a lost or broken key, and full all keys lost service. All keys lost takes proof of authorization, your ID plus registration or title, and the procedure shifts with the year and the immobilizer system. Nobody gets a Jeep started on a stranger’s say-so, us included.
Additional Jeep Services
- Emergency lockout and car unlock. Locked out? We get you back in without tearing up the door lock or the weatherstripping.
- Broken key extraction. Snapped off in the ignition or a door lock. We pull the piece and sort out the replacement.
- Ignition repair. Worn ignition key cylinders, failing switches, steering lock trouble that shows up as a key that turns halfway and stops.
- Key fob battery replacement. A dying key fob battery imitates a dead fob almost perfectly. Key battery replacement takes a minute and saves you a real bill.
- Key repair. Cracked cases, worn buttons, loose blades, when a full replacement isn’t necessary.
- Valet and spare keys. Extra or limited-function keys for lending, valet, or the glovebox stash.
Jeep Key Replacement FAQ
How much does a Jeep key replacement cost in Houston?▾
It depends on which key your Jeep takes. A Sentry Key transponder blade for an older Wrangler sits at the low end. A FOBIK sits in the middle. A proximity smart key for a current Grand Cherokee or Gladiator is the priciest, mostly because of the part itself. Rather than quote a range that means nothing, we ask for your year, model, and whether you still have a working key, then give you a firm number on the phone. Upfront pricing, no bump at the end. First-time customers get 20% off.
Can you program a key if all of my keys are lost?▾
Yes. All keys lost is standard work for us and it doesn’t require a tow. It takes longer than a spare because we start from nothing: cut a fresh blade key or laser-cut key, then write a new key to the vehicle immobilizer. We do need proof of authorization before we touch it, so have your driver’s license and the registration or title on hand, matching the name. If the Jeep is in someone else’s name, call us before we roll out and we’ll tell you what will work.
How long does it take?▾
A duplicate or spare key on most Jeeps runs roughly fifteen to thirty minutes once we’re parked next to you. All keys lost usually lands in the forty-five to ninety minute range depending on the model year and how the immobilizer wants to be handled. Newer secure gateway vehicles can take longer. We’d rather tell you ninety and finish in sixty than the other way around.
Can you just replace the key fob battery, or is it something deeper?▾
Start with the battery, honestly. It’s cheap and it’s the culprit more often than people expect. The tell is range: if you have to be almost touching the door for keyless entry to respond, that’s a battery. If the buttons do nothing at any distance, or the push-button start throws a “key not detected” message with a fresh cell in it, the fob or the receiver is the problem and we’ll diagnose it on-site. Either way you’re not paying for a new key until we’re sure you need one.
Key locked inside the car? Before ordering a replacement, call our Houston emergency locksmiths — getting a Jeep door open is usually quicker and cheaper than making a new key.
